Stefaan Van Onsem

Stefaan Van Onsem (MD, PhD) is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and sports pathology at AZ Alma Eeklo and serves as an academic consultant at Ghent University. He obtained a PhD on the factors influencing patient satisfaction after total knee arthroplasty, after which he completed a fellowship in complex knee surgery in Sydney, Australia. In addition, he is Chief Medical Officer at the start-up Surgical Sensors, where he combines his clinical expertise with academic research and innovative technologies. He is also co-founder of Daktari Project vzw, a humanitarian initiative supporting a hospital in Kilembe, Uganda.

KRISTOF SMEETS

Prof. Dr. Kristof Smeets is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and sports injuries. After his training at UZ Leuven, he pursued international fellowships in Australia and the United States. He further refined his expertise as a fellow under Prof. Bellemans at ZOL Genk and was also trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He currently practices at GRIT Belgian Sports Clinic, AZ Vesalius, and Arthroclinic. In addition, he supports Team Belgium at international competitions and has served as team physician for national football teams. He is a member of the Belgian and European Knee Societies.
